Did you know that oral cancer was that serious? Don’t believe the myth that only smokers and those who chew tobacco get oral cancer, that isn’t true! Historically the death rate associated with this cancer is particularly high not because it is hard to discover or diagnose, but due to the cancer being routinely discovered late in it’s development. Screenings can lead to early detection but despite these recommendations, the National Center for Health Statistics reported that only 14% of the US population has ever had an oral cancer screening. This is another reason why regular dental check-ups are so important. An oral cancer screening by the doctors is a routine part of our exams. Please share this information with your family and friends and encourage them to have regular dental exams.
