Everyone wants a beautiful, attractive smile, and we all know that there are a few things we need to do to maintain one. For example, we know that it is important to visit a dentist at least every six months and to brush and floss daily. But did you know that many Americans don’t brush their teeth as well as they could? To help you protect your smile, we are happy to provide you with three common mistakes to avoid.
- Good oral hygiene starts with your toothbrush. We recommend buying a toothbrush with bristles that aren’t too hard and one with a small head that will allow for easy maneuverability. Second, you should rinse your toothbrush thoroughly after each use, store it upright in an open space, and replace it every two to three months.
- You should brush at least twice a day, though three times a day might be better. However, brushing more than three times a day may be too much. Excessive or overly-vigorous brushing can damage your gums and enamel. Also, remember to brush for two minutes at a time.
- When you brush, you should avoid long, horizontal strokes. It is better to use circular motions or short up-and-down strokes to effectively clean plaque. Also, remember to brush all of your teeth, including the teeth in the back of your mouth.
