Some of Heart of the City Dental’s patients report a feeling of discomfort when consuming hot, cold, sweet or acidic things. In many of these cases one of our skilled dentists may find that the tooth sensitivity problem is linked to a developing dental health problem.

Demineralized tooth enamel, which is sometimes referred to as tooth enamel erosion can often be a contributing factor in a case of tooth sensitivity. This is often related to chronic plaque acids caused by poor oral hygiene or the frequent consumption of acidic beverages.

If our dentist suspects your tooth sensitivity is linked to enamel erosion we can administer a fluoride treatment to prevent or minimize cavity development. This treatment strategy might also be followed up by you using prescription fluoride supplements and brushing your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.

Any active areas of tooth decay could also contribute to tooth sensitivity discomfort. Should your dental exam reveal any cavities, we will help you understand your treatment options. This often calls for applying a dental filling or performing a dental crown restoration.

If necessary we can help you understand small improvements you can make in your oral hygiene routine and daily habits, to help maintain strong tooth enamel in the future.
